Chetver Pulse

AI doesn't index your site.
It decides if it's worth remembering.

Pulse is the analytics layer for AI traffic — every crawler, every retrieval, every gap in how AI sees you. Continuously updated as their behaviour evolves.

The shift

Google indexes everything.
AI bots index what they think they'll need.

Same surface, two completely different reading strategies — and traditional analytics is built for only one of them.

Google's bots
  • Indexed by algorithmevery page they can reach
  • Persistent storagekept until pages move or disappear
  • Predictable scheduleregular crawl frequency by page rank
  • One bot, one rulebookGooglebot is Googlebot
  • Goal: search resultsranking ten blue links
AI bots
  • Selectiveread only what they think they'll need
  • Two modes, neither predictablelive retrieval at runtime + training crawls in batches
  • Ephemeral memorythey re-derive what they can
  • Many bots, many rulesGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Bytespider — each at its own pace
  • Goal: live answers + model recallcitations in chats, presence in training data
If they didn't store you,
you don't exist next time someone asks.
What it does

Track. Understand. Adapt.

Pulse doesn't just count bots. It studies how they read your site, then turns the patterns into a list of changes ranked by what moves AI visibility most.

01 / Track

Every AI hit, in real time.

GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, ChatGPT Search — all named, all timestamped.

We pick each bot out by user agent the moment it lands, then show you which page they read, where they came from, and how long ago. Two surfaces — your AI Page and a pixel on your main site — together cover both training crawlers and live retrieval.

02 / Understand

Patterns nobody else can see.

Which pages AI returns to. Which pages it never comes back to. When in the day it crawls. What it ignores.

Pulse continuously studies how AI crawlers behave on your site — by bot, by path, by day. The behaviour changes (new bots, new policies, retired user agents) and our model adapts with it. You get a clear picture of how AI sees you, not a static checklist.

03 / Adapt

Fixes ranked by impact.

Every pattern becomes a prioritised task — change, effort, AI-visibility points unlocked.

No more "best practices" lists. Pulse tells you which one change unlocks the most AI traffic this week, how long it takes, and how many visibility points you'll gain. Ship it, mark it done, see the next one.

The lab

The bots keep changing.
So do we.

Every month brings new AI crawlers, retired user agents, policy shifts. We track them so your dashboard always reflects how AI actually behaves today — not what a six-month-old SEO post claims.

  1. Apr 2026

    Apple-Extended joins the opt-out family

Apple released its training-data crawler control on top of Applebot. Pulse added detection the same week and a row in the bot-diversity score, so customers saw Apple presence the moment it appeared on their site.

  2. Mar 2026

    ChatGPT-User UA migrated to v2

OpenAI rolled the live-retrieval user agent from ChatGPT-User/1.0 to a new oai-searchbot-prefixed string with a different reverse-DNS domain. Pulse's detection rule was updated within 6 hours; analytics never went silent.

  3. Feb 2026

    Anthropic clarified ClaudeBot robots.txt rules

Anthropic published guidance on path-fragment matching in robots.txt for ClaudeBot and the older anthropic-ai agent. We rewrote our health-check regex to match the new behaviour and back-tested it against the last 30 days of customer sites.

  4. Jan 2026

    Bytespider went off-script

ByteDance's crawler started fetching pages with Disallow: directives in place on a subset of hosts. Pulse added IP-range detection alongside UA matching so customers' bot tallies stayed accurate even when the agent string lied.

  5. Dec 2025

Live retrieval split out from training

The oai-searchbot agent emerged as a distinct path from ChatGPT-User. Pulse introduced a separate "Live retrieval" category in the dashboard so customers could finally tell apart "AI is reading me on behalf of a real person right now" from "AI is studying me for the next training run".

  6. Nov 2025

    Google-Extended became default opt-out

Google clarified that sites without an explicit Allow: Google-Extended in robots.txt would be treated as opted-out of Bard / Gemini training. Pulse's health check now flags the missing Allow as a P2 issue with the visibility cost spelled out.

Yesterday's checklist is today's miss.
